Affen Day Out


Magic is taking some time out from blogging just for a few days as she is going to the vets tomorrow to be spayed. Hopefully she will be up and about again very soon and able to share her adventures again but, in the meantime,  Aoife and Crybbe would like to share some photos  from their day out at Burton Constable this Sunday:

Burton Constable Hall is an Elizabethan country house with some lovely open spaces to wander round with your dogs. The day we went there was also an archery contest happening with many people dressed for the occasion :-)


Crybbe & Aoife were as pleased as us to see a welcome sign on the tea-room door:

One end of the stable cafe and gift shop is designated for dogs and their owners to be able to sit under cover and enjoy a snack whatever the weather.

As well as the archery contest another surprise was seeing  the remains of the skeleton of a 58.5 foot long sperm whale that was stranded on the nearby coast in the early 19th century. At one time it had been on display in the grounds but can now be viewed in the stable block.

Among the trees we also found a whale inspired sculpture:


 and lots of pretty wild flowers like these red campions:


 as well as a sheep trying out a tree stump to get a better view :-)

    Wow--what a spooky and fun place to come with the dogs! Especially since pups are welcome in the dining area:)

    We hope Magic recovers quickly from her op tomorrow, please tell her it's nothing to worry about.
    That was a lovely day out Aoife and Crybbe, nice that you were guest bloggers and showed us your photos.
    We are very intrigued by the Ha-Ha Wall.

    Hey Crybbe, you checking out those bones reminds me of something "Miss Piggy" said - you should never eat more than you can LIFT!! This is also my mum's mantra BOL!

    Hi, Magic. Good luck on that operation. Quick question, why was Magic spayed? Doesn't that mean she won't be doing any dog shows anymore?

      Hi Haopee - well actually the op was postponed at the last minute as our regular vet is away for a week so it will be this coming Tuesday instead! Magic can be shown after being spayed. It is only male dogs that wouldn't be able to be shown as the judge checks their testicles :-) but Magic isn't that keen on showing anyway so I think she's just going to be a lady of leisure from now on! We decided to have her spayed as she won't be having any more pups now, she won't need to go through the 6 monthly season and should be a bit less likely to get any hormone related health problem. And Crybbe will have one less frisky female to worry about as he does get a bit frustrated when the girls are in season :-) Thanks for your message and Magic will post again after the op xxx
