Dogs in the City (Part 1)

Well the Olympics are over now for peeps and furries so we decided to have a day out to the city. This is me on the lower step with my sister Caoimhe and Crybbe. Yesterday we went to explore Leeds. Our village is set about halfway between York in one direction and Leeds in the other and compared to our village it is very BIG. Some of the buildings reach up into the sky like this tower of flats:

Leeds has some very modern buildings but there are some old ones too as there have been peeps living in this area for many hundreds of years! We had a good time exploring and finding out more about the city and lots of photos were taken so I will do another post as well for you to see all the places we visited. As we got into the city early on Sunday there were not many peeps about but here are some of the shops:

We were hoping to go in this one but they were closed to dogs :-(

or at least real dogs!

These flat hounds sneaked in!

The city is beside a big river called the River Aire - this is the area where the Airedale Terriers (like Wyatt and Stanzie and our other bloggy Airedale friends) originally came from - they were also called Waterside Terriers because in the past they were used to hunt otters along the water side. Here is part of the bridge over the river into the city:

The coat of arms on the centre pillar has a sheep fleece as Leeds was at the centre of the woollen trade many years ago. And there are 2 owls - these were from the coat of arms of an Alderman of Leeds called Sir John Saville. I think he must have really liked owls because we saw them  everywhere in the city:

These were on all the railing posts outside the city library.

And this was one of the huge owls outside the City Hall.

And in case you were missing seeing us - here we are outside one of the 2 post boxes which have been painted gold to honour the Leeds boxer Nicola Adams the first woman to become an Olympic boxing champion at the peeps Olympics. Crybbe was dressed for the occasion in his black and gold bling harness :-)

There are lots of arcades in the centre of the city with little shops of all kinds inside and beautiful decoration on the walls and windows:

I hope you liked these pictures and I will show you more in another post - and when we visited the Nelson Mandela Garden which is a lovely peaceful place in the middle of the city to sit and rest by the flowers and fountains :-)

Shame you couldn't go in the shopping centre, wouldn't want you lovely dogs to be flat anyway :-) Nice you got to see one of the gold post boxes Yes George is right, that Yorkshire tea must be strong stuff, your athletes did very well :-) Crybbe, you look very smart in your bling harness!

  5. Thanks for the tour...so much to see. We'd have liked the OLD section. And we learned about Airedales. We didn't know where they originated.

    Thanks again, we enjoyed it.

  6. Leeds looks like a beautiful place. Amazing how those places are built right up to the river. It looks like Venice! :)

  7. Thanks for showing us around! I only know about Harvey Nichols, being an American an all, from watching 'Absolutely Fabulous' years ago. When I saw it I could hear Eddy and Patsy say 'Harvey Nicks, sweetie', lol.

  8. Wow, I never thought Caoimhe could be so pretty. Her hair is way different than Magic. Magic is cute and lovable while Caoimhe looks as if she has a stronger personality.

Anyway, I'm going to send the header to you in your email. I hope you like it.
